My Creative Muse: Matrescence

I launched a personal project a few weeks ago that has invigorated my copywriting consultancy. I’m documenting women’s pregnancy, birth and motherhood stories and in the process bringing attention to the forgotten rite of passage of becoming a mother, matrescence.

This offering wasn’t strategic. It poured of my heart. But it’s illuminated and directed my work as a copywriter and brand strategist in a few ways:

_God is it true that you should write what you love. What I love is women’s power and empowerment, feminine cycles, liberated motherhood, and connection to each other and our precious planet.

_Writing long form is so damn refreshing! Don't get me wrong: I love the satisfaction of a tight poignant tag line but variety is the spice of the life. I’m enjoying that my audience doesn’t want the draft to be tight. They want it to feel true.

_Creating a brand, website and social media presence has allowed me to step into the shoes of the businesses I support and see their goals, priorities and resources with new depth.

This experiment has been an incredible reminder as a creative of the value of being inspired. And for that I am so grateful to the women who have trusted me with their stories and motherhood.
